Through the FAST OFFER International program, she had the opportunity to interview with several Japanese companies. Despite facing challenges in aligning her experience with company expectations, she persevered. This story highlights her Kaizen spirit, emphasizing continuous improvement and hard work.

Dreaming of an engineering career in Japan’s electronic industry, I started studying Japanese

As soon as I started my graduation research, I began researching my post-graduation career. As I entered the placement preparation period, I narrowed down the companies and industries I wanted to apply to. Then one day, I received a notice from my university’s career center about FAST OFFER International. I read through the success stories from around the world who received job offers from Japanese companies through FAST OFFER International. Before then, I thought I would be like everyone else and get a job at some company in India. But these stories inspired me enough to change my future. They made me believe that if I worked hard and learned Japanese, an Indian like me could work in Japan‘s Electronics Industry.

From there, I began researching Japanese life and work culture. Through this research, I was able to learn the following advantages of Japanese companies.

The Benefits of Working for a Japanese Company

Japanese companies’ commitment to R&D and the world-class electronics industry

Indian companies usually hire based on skills, give projects to their employees, and do not focus much on R&D. They are not too concerned with improving the quality of their products. On the other hand, I learned that Japanese companies are very dedicated to improving the quality of their products and developing new products. This mindset across the Japanese electronics industry has placed them as one of the leaders on the global stage.

The booming and innovative Electronics industry of Japan has plenty of opportunities for Indian graduates.

India has few jobs for electronics students. There are many talented Indians but not enough companies to take them in. Japan, on the other hand, is bursting with job opportunities that they have to look for international talents to fill in the gap. There is so much space for talented Indian graduates to find work in Japan.

The time management Skills of the Japanese are top-notch.

Japan’s respect for time is top-notch. It’s seen in the individuals arriving at work on time and getting to meetings on the dot. But it’s also seen in their infrastructure—from their efficient government street repairs to their trains running like clockwork. I can’t say the same with most other countries, including India.

Teamwork spirit of Japanese companies

Japanese engineers collaborate with their teammates and with other companies to successfully complete large projects, compared to Indian companies that are more individualistic and competency-based. I found this approach of Japanese engineers very appealing. I also think that it is better to work with others on projects than to do everything by myself because I can discover new things and get involved in larger projects.

The Benefits of Working In Japan: Living in Japan

I also gained a deeper understanding of Japan’s food culture and beautiful nature. Thus, as I learned more about Japan’s commitment to technical capabilities and the depth of Japanese culture, I became more and more interested in working in Japan.

Learning Japanese: The Path to Japan’s Electronics Engineering Industry

In addition, during my research, I learned that studying Japanese language skills was important for working at a Japanese company. So, I applied for Japanese language classes at SRM University partnered with the FAST OFFER international program.

Before that, I had always found Japanese pronunciation interesting by watching Japanese anime. My interest in Japanese accelerated when I enrolled in a Japanese class at SRM University and began to learn the language in earnest. After that, I spent every day from 2:00 am to 4:00 pm doing independent study and homework. Other than working on my graduation project, my life was all about learning Japanese. It might seem like I was getting tired, but I was getting increasingly enthusiastic about Japanese learning.

Timeline Entering Japan’s Electronics Industry Thru Kaizen & Hard Work

The path of perseverance and perseverance to get a job offer

While studying Japanese at SRM University, I had the opportunity to interview with Japanese companies through FAST OFFER International. It took me a long time from the time I had the interview to the time I finally received the job offer, as I had many interviews and could not get the job. Here are the difficulties I encountered interviewing with Japanese companies:

The challenges I faced with Japanese job interviews

Difference between the way of interviewing with Japanese companies and the style of interviewing in India

Before the interview, I did not understand that interviews with Japanese companies are unique. In India, where the focus is on skills and experience. In comparison, Japanese companies are not only about skills but also about personal values, Japanese language skills, and leadership experience.

Japanese companies also focus on how much research a candidate has done about the company and his/her willingness to join. Therefore, before interviewing with a Japanese company, I read through the information on the company’s website and researched every aspect of the company’s products and business. I also researched how the company’s products were accepted by consumers and their position in the market. That helped me think about how I would pursue my career goals in Japan’s electronics industry and what career path I would like to pursue at the company.

I had a hard time connecting my experience with the companies I interviewed with

To pass an interview at a Japanese company, your research and experience must match what the company is looking for. The companies I interviewed with in the beginning were in fields that had little relevance to my specialty. So, it was difficult for me to successfully showcase my experience. However, as I interviewed more and more, I was able to learn how to match my experience to the type of person the company was looking for.

Despite these difficulties, through many interviews with Japanese companies, I gained insight into how to present myself in interviews and what areas I did not do well. Finally, after many interviews, I received a job offer from my dream company! This is one of the biggest events in my life. When I found out that I had received a job offer, I was truly filled with happiness.

Always remembering my purpose kept my morale up

What kept me going through the five months of failure until I received the job offer was my strong desire to work in Japan. This is exactly the journey that is explained with the Kaizen approach. Another reason was that I was able to come to Japan twice through FAST OFFER International for interviews. Going to Japan strengthened my desire to go back and work in Japan again, and I was able to continue working hard until I received a job offer.

Job Offer at a Japanese Company: Finding My Dream Job in the Electronics Industry in Japan

I finally got the job I had dreamed of at a Japanese company. As I majored in electronics, I was offered a job in a company involved in the manufacturing of chips. In fact, there are not many jobs in electronics in India, so it is common for electronics graduates to work as IT engineers. But I really wanted to work in the field of electronics because I loved it. I am very happy that I was able to get the job I dreamed of at a Japanese company.

Once I join the company, I want to absorb a lot of new things and someday become an engineer capable of developing the latest technology. Also, I heard that the company I am joining has a basketball club, so I hope to participate in it and make friends with other employees.

I cannot wait to start working in Japan!
