How My Japanese Motorcycle Inspired Me
I own a 20-year-old Japanese motorcycle that I got from my father, and it has never needed a single repair. Believe it or not, it still works perfectly today, earning my deep respect for Japanese craftsmanship. This is what inspired me to work in Japan, so I can hopefully help produce top-notch products in the future.
My sister, who shared the same ambition to work abroad, encouraged me to pursue Computer Application instead, recognizing it as a future-proof career. Watching her work so hard to learn Japanese and eventually land a job in Japan really inspired me. Her success showed me what was possible — a job offer in Japan before graduation. It solidified my own goal: to use my technical skills to live and work in Japan, following a path similar to hers.
Following My Sister’s Path
I found that my sister didn’t reach her goal alone, and she got help from the FAST OFFER international program. Following in her footsteps, I began my Japanese studies from zero through FAST OFFER’s Hirameki course. The beginning was challenging, especially kanji, which often felt overwhelming. However, I gradually turned those struggles into motivation by immersing myself in Japanese music and anime.
One of the best parts of my language learning journey was the group study I was a part of. With my seven classmates from the FAST OFFER course, we formed a study group, and we practiced Japanese together constantly. We study together and support each other through the toughest moments. Having that mutual support was a key factor in my progress.
There were many times when I felt burned out, but the FAST OFFER team and my classmates, senseis, always lifted my spirits and reminded me that I wasn’t walking this path alone. After a few months, my mentor told me that a company had shown interest in interviewing me.
At first, I was afraid and lacked confidence. After all, I was still just a university student, and my Japanese wasn’t yet strong. However, the FAST OFFER staff believed in me and encouraged me to seize the opportunity. With their support, I decided to take this valuable chance and move forward.
Going To Japan for a Job Interview
My goal of getting a job offer in Japan before graduation required me to do a balancing act. I was working on my final year project and preparing for the interview at the same time. It was hard, but I pushed through it.
How Anime Helped Me Establish Rapport During an Interview
After passing the initial online interview, I was invited to fly to Japan for the final round of the interview. During the in-person interview in Japan, I noticed two of the interviewers had a Kansai accent. It can be difficult to understand for those who are just beginning to learn Japanese, but luckily, I recognized the Kansai accent from anime. And so, I decided to try speaking a bit of the accent back to them. Even though it wasn’t perfect, it broke the ice and kept the conversation flowing. I could say anime really helped me to make the interview flow!
Finally — A Job Offer In Japan Before Graduation
That day, I also made five new friends. We were all delighted to find out that every one of us received an offer. I was so overwhelmed that I almost cried. Above all, I couldn’t believe I had secured a job before even graduating! Calling my family and friends to share the news was the best part — especially my sister, who is my inspiration.
I feel fortunate to have good support throughout this journey — from my family, the FAST OFFER staff, my Hirameki classmates, and my fellow candidates. That night, we celebrated by finally treating ourselves to some authentic Japanese food and exploring Tokyo nightlife.
During my Japanese language journey, I experienced much of Japan through anime, but the real Japan far exceeded my imagination and expectations. I am now eager to begin my career there.
My Next Chapter
My next step is to continue improving my Japanese, including a deeper understanding of Japanese work culture, so I am fully prepared for the workplace. Having visited Japan before, I know there is still much to see, and I’m excited to explore the country further while working there. Photography is my main hobby, so I plan to buy a good camera in Japan to capture all the wonderful places I visit.
My Message to Fellow Students Who Want to Secure a Job Offer in Japan Before Graduation
I believe that passion is the key to my journey. By integrating my interests in anime and music into my Japanese studies, I was able to make the learning process both enjoyable and sustainable. However, passion must be paired with discipline. I committed myself to writing kanji every single day to master the language. That said, everyone learns differently, so it’s important to find what works best for you and pursue it wholeheartedly.
Having strong support is also just as important. Surround yourself with people who believe in you and will help guide you toward your goals. And with the right guidance and a proactive mindset, it is possible to secure a job offer in Japan before graduation.
