SUMMARY
This is the story of an Electronics and Telecommunication engineer graduate who was inspired to move to Japan because of the country’s leadership in AI and robotics. With the help of FAST OFFER, he was able to elevate his Japanese and presentation skills. Eventually, he secured a job with a Japanese manufacturing company and is excited to start his new journey as a salaryman.

How Anime and Japan’s AI & Robotics Field Inspired Me

Long before securing a job in Japan, I’ve always felt an affinity for the country. My connection to Japan began with anime and films. Growing up in India, I spent countless hours immersed in Japanese stories and culture. This passion inspired me to pursue Japanese language studies alongside my engineering degree — a demanding yet rewarding feat.

Along with my love for Japanese pop culture, its reputation for precision and innovation also deeply resonated with me. As an aspiring electronics engineer, I recognized that Japan’s AI and robotics field can offer career growth.

Japan has also captivated me as a place where heritage and technology coexist harmoniously. I admired its culture of craftsmanship — evident in enduring brands like Panasonic and Mitsubishi — and the societal values of dedication and reliability. While India’s work culture embraces flexibility, I found myself drawn to Japan’s structured environment as a space where I could develop professionally.

Building Bridges: Language and Mentorship from FAST OFFER

Achieving fluency in Japanese was my first significant challenge in achieving my dream of working in Japan’s AI and robotics field. To tackle this, during university, I enrolled in JLPT courses. And in my free time, I practiced Japanese daily through apps like HelloTalk, where I can practice speaking with people who have native fluency in Japanese.

My journey accelerated when I joined FAST OFFER International. Their tailored mock interviews and expert mentoring refined my presentation skills. Balancing technical studies with language mastery required sustained effort over four years, but it taught me the power of consistent practice.

The Interview: Focused Preparation, Meaningful Result

I applied selectively and interviewed with just one company. After two thorough interview rounds, I received my dream offer. My preparation proved decisive: language fluency, technical knowledge, and composure under pressure made a positive impression. This wasn’t accidental —I’d rehearsed diligently with FAST OFFER mentors through realistic simulations of job interviews. Because of this, I was able to clearly convey my genuine desire to contribute to Japan’s technological evolution during my job interview. I feel that this is what sealed the deal for me!

Excited To Experience Japan’s Work Culture

I understand that adapting to cultural differences as a foreign talent presents its own challenges. But as someone whose personal work ethic matches Japan’s work culture of punctuality, commitment to deadlines, and teamwork, I’m more excited than nervous to experience this cultural difference.

Looking Forward

This April, I’ll join the new division of a leading Japanese tech firm. I’m excited to innovate alongside industry pioneers while finally experiencing Japan firsthand — its iconic cherry blossoms, vibrant cities — just like in my favorite anime. This opportunity represents more than a career step; it’s the realization of a long-held aspiration.

To my fellow engineers who wish to live and work in Japan, my tip is to prioritize gaining conversational fluency in Japanese and improving your technical skills — these remain your strongest assets. Remember, Japan rewards dedication. With focused effort and the right support — like I found through FAST OFFER International — you too can find your place here.

FAST OFFER CAREER GUIDE: AI and Robotics in Japan Today

As a global leader in technology, it’s no surprise that Japan continues to invest heavily in its artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics sectors. But what is the current state of these fields in Japan, and what opportunities does this present for foreign talents looking to land a job in the field? Here’s a closer look at AI and robotics in Japan today.

An AI law Has Been Passed

In May 2025, Japan passed the Act on the Promotion of Research and Development and the Utilization of AI-Related Technologies, commonly referred to as the “AI Law.” [1] This legislation aims to encourage innovation in artificial intelligence, while establishing safeguards to prevent its misuse. With this in place, Japan hopes to accelerate AI development while ensuring its safe and ethical use.

AI and Robotics in Agriculture

One area expected to benefit significantly from AI and robotics is agriculture. With a declining agricultural workforce, several companies are investing in research and development to create AI-driven systems and robotic solutions. [2] The goal is to help meet growing food demands by increasing efficiency and reducing the strain on human labor.

Robots in Service Sectors

Robots and AI were once used primarily for industrial purposes in Japan, particularly in factories. However, their presence has recently expanded into the service sector. Service robots are now commonly seen in restaurants, hotels, and offices where they are delivering dishes and cleaning to help offset the declining workforce. [3] A well-known example is the Skylar Group’s BellaBot, a robot that not only serves food but also features interactive functions to enhance customer experience.

AI and Robotics For Elderly Care

As Japan’s aging population continues to grow, there is an increasing focus on the use of AI and robotics in elderly care. AI-powered caregiver robots are being developed and tested to assist with daily tasks, support mobility, and enhance overall quality of life for seniors.[4] Innovations designed specifically for elder care are also emerging. One notable example is the AI-powered human washing machine, unveiled at the Osaka Expo last April, which is designed to assist with proper hygiene.

AI and Robotics continues to grow in Japan thanks to its world-reknown culture of excellence and the government’s strong support. So, if you’re a blossoming international talent with a passion for AI and Robotics, Japan’s a smart choice for your future!
