My decision to pursue mechanical engineering was rooted in a genuine love for cars. Unlike many of my classmates, I was never intimidated by machines; rather, I saw them as a form of art that combined beauty, intelligence, and innovation. I dreamed of one day being involved in the design of vehicles — a field I believe would allow me to make a meaningful impact.

Why did I choose Japan? Working in a country known for its world-class manufacturing, cutting-edge technology, and automotive innovation is a dream. To prepare myself for a future in Japan, I began learning Japanese during my third year at university in 2018. At first, my study method was traditional — using textbooks and grammar guides. However, I quickly discovered that language learning requires more than just memorization. I supplemented my studies by immersing myself in Japanese media: watching YouTube videos, listening to Japanese music, and reading simple news articles. My favorite method is listening to Japanese songs and learning the lyrics, which helped me remember vocabulary and sentence structure more naturally.
Over time, my Japanese skills improved steadily. I also participated in formal language classes and always looked for opportunities to improve. My dedication paid off — I was eventually able to understand the gist of conversations and respond confidently in Japanese.

When I decided to pursue employment in Japan, I knew that technical skills alone wouldn’t be enough. To prepare for job interviews, I researched common interview questions, practiced my responses in Japanese, and studied the background and values of the companies I was interested in. I also took time to reflect on my motivations and career goals so I could communicate clearly and sincerely why I chose Japan during interviews.
My goal was to find a company where I could apply my mechanical engineering knowledge to product design — ideally in the automotive sector. When I discovered an opportunity through FAST OFFER International, I was excited by the prospect of interviewing directly with Japanese companies. The whole interview process was conducted online. Despite this, I was able to present myself confidently thanks to my preparation and commitment.

Despite not having visited Japan, I had already developed a strong admiration for Japanese culture through my study of the language and exposure to its media. Beyond cars and technology, I also found myself drawn to Japanese music, which became another source of emotional connection to the country and one of the reasons why I chose Japan.

My efforts culminated in a successful job offer from a Japanese company in February. I will begin working in August.
Reflecting on my interview experience, I believe that my ability to understand most of what was being said in Japanese, even if not perfectly, was a key factor in securing the offer. More importantly, I emphasized the importance of honesty and sincerity. I spoke openly about my interests, experiences, and goals. I believe that my authenticity helped me connect with the interviewers.

As I prepare to move to Japan for the first time, I’m filled with both excitement and determination. I know that working in Japan will come with its own set of challenges — from adapting to workplace norms to navigating daily life in a foreign country. However, I’m confident that my passion for my work and my respect for Japanese culture will guide me through.
My story is a powerful example of how a clear goal, self-discipline, and a genuine interest in another culture can open doors across borders. I didn’t let the fact that I had never been to Japan hold me back. Instead, I used every tool available to build a bridge between myself and the country of my dreams.
