From Senior’s Advice to Global Success: The Dream to Be An Indian IT Graduate in Japan is Possible!

I was an ordinary student pursuing Engineering without any idea of what could come next. Then, one day, my senior told me about a golden opportunity that I didn’t want to miss! Trusting my senior’s success, I quickly followed their footsteps.

Japanese Technology Inspired Career Aspirations: Why Japan Became My Dream Destination As an Indian IT Graduate

I’ve been interested in technology since I was a child. This led me to major in information technology at the university. As I continued my studies, I learned that Japan’s technological innovation and attention to detail are highly regarded around the world, which sparked a strong desire in me. I was particularly impressed by Japan’s unique “craftsmanship” and its culture of teamwork in creating high-quality products and services.

It was during my graduation project that I began to consider a career in Japan. In that project, I developed a loan screening system using machine learning, achieving high accuracy. Through this process, I learned that gaining user trust requires more than just superior technology; it also requires a user-centric design and careful testing. Hearing that Japanese companies place a particular emphasis on “reliability” and “user-centered design,” I felt that this was an environment where I could maximize my skills and gain new technical and scientific knowledge.

Wanting To Be Part of Japanese Working Culture

I’m in awe of how Japan’s advanced technology is seamlessly integrated into its culture. I want to see for myself how they balance celebrating innovation while sticking to their roots of discipline and respect. Japanese organizations work together towards long-term visions and high-quality products, and their admirable ways have always motivated me to experience their working culture.

These facets of Japan informed the idea that I could grow to my maximum professional and personal potential there. What I saw from Japanese culture and advanced technology, especially in AI and robotics, motivated me to study Japanese language and pursue my career in Japan.

Building the Groundwork Through Learning Japanese

I started learning Japanese in college, which was around one year ago. I managed to clear the N5 and N3 levels of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) in one year, and am currently preparing for the N2 exam.

Achieving fluency in Japanese was my first goal in attaining my dream of working in Japan. I practiced Japanese daily through apps like HelloTalk, where I spent 2-3 hours daily interacting with native Japanese speakers. I made almost 38 native Japanese friends on the app.

Challenges and Highlights of My Language Learning Journey

Learning the language wasn’t a walk in the park. Japanese is not a subject to learn theoretically; one needs practical usage to improve. Without speaking practice, one cannot achieve the goal of learning the entire language. Another challenging area of my Japanese study was Kanji.

However, learning grammar and vocabulary was a breeze! I watched anime daily and read the news in Japanese. I watched NHK World Japanese videos and listened to podcasts on YouTube, such as the YUYU Japanese Podcast and Bite-sized Japanese.

The important thing to realize while studying is to communicate in Japanese. Expose yourself to a lot of Japanese news, podcasts, anime, music, movies, TV shows, and the like. Listen and note the words – eventually, they will automatically trickle into your daily conversations.

After improving communication, I would recommend training your brain to memorize Kanji. I usually write 20 kanji daily, along with each character’s story. Whenever I revise the Kanji, I read the story.

Putting the Japanese to Use with FAST OFFER International: A Step Closer to My Dream Destination as an Indian IT Graduate

I learned about FAST OFFER International from my senior, who had already been successfully placed through their services.

FAST OFFER jump-started my journey further – their mock interviews, export mentoring, and overall guidance refined my presentation skills. I also refined my personal data in my CV and prepared for my project presentation by simplifying it. I made sure to gather information about the company to understand its goals and tailored my presentation around them.

After preparation under the wing of FAST OFFER International, I finally experienced my first interview. I unfortunately was not selected for the job, so I continued my preparation. After a month, I appeared for a second interview, which I finally got selected for! The moment I received the job offer, I felt like my dream had come true. I felt very excited and happy because the hard work finally paid off.

Tips on Acing the Interviews

  • Prepare your self-information and practice how to convey your thoughts in Japanese.
  • Convey your project easily and understandably – even a child should be able to understand it.
  • Gather company information from LinkedIn or elsewhere.
  • Finally, learn about culture, as this will help you maintain your etiquette and manners.

Looking Forward to My Future in Japan

Living in Japan won’t only be about work, but also the experience of constantly being able to learn a lot and improve my skills. Apart from achieving my personal and professional goals, I hope to be exposed to world-class skills and contribute to meaningful projects, be part of the culture, and experience valuable growth and innovation. I won’t work just to work – I will work to experience!

To anyone who dreams of this as well – remember to prioritize communication. That was the main objective of my language learning journey, and I would advise all my fellow learners to focus on speaking Japanese as much as they can, and your dream will come true!

Be confident, speak simply, know etiquette, observe manners, and the Land of the Rising Sun will be within reach!
