Why Working in Japan Was My Biggest Dream
Working in Japan as an Indian expat has always been my biggest dream. I’ve poured a lot into it to make sure it comes true. I’m glad to tell you that the dream, even amidst all its challenges, is well worth all the effort.
To everyone currently going through their journey of job searching, either to work in Japan or work in another country, Japan is the country that I would encourage everyone to choose. I hope everyone can also experience how rewarding the experience can be.
A Japanese language school first introduced me to Japanese language. Learning Japanese was not that difficult because it has the same grammar as my native language Marathi. Learning Japanese was not as confusing as I thought it would be. It was quite enjoyable!
How the locals actively helped me adjust to Life Working in Japan
When I came to Japan, the environment influenced me to use Japanese daily and practice everything I learned. It was challenging in some ways, but thankfully, I met nice people in Japan who supported me greatly. I asked the friends I made in Japan to help me improve my Japanese, whether by expanding my kanji vocabulary or bettering my communication.
Communicating with them was a bit of a challenge because of the language barrier but I tried my best to fit in with the mindset that this is where I live now so I need to adapt. This helped me learn more from them as
I followed their way. The challenge shaped me and pushed me to build my knowledge. I was driven to work hard knowing this was just a step to reach my dream.
As an Indian working abroad, it was a challenge to leave my home country and choose to live as a foreigner in Japan. But my will to adapt to life in Japan, and to learn more about their culture is strong.
I found that regarding Japanese culture, the locals never think of me as someone foreign to them. They always considered me as their in their eyes and gladly accepted me as one of them. With that in mind, I found a place in Japanese society where I could fit in and learn a lot from the locals. I would like everyone to experience the same thing as well.
Finding Cultural Differences Between India and Japan Fascinating
I expected the cultural differences between Japan and India. Luckily, I managed to adapt to the habits and lifestyle of Japanese people quickly. Even though it is noticeably different from my home country, India, I never felt alien to it. I found how I can make myself comfortable in Japanese society. Admittedly, there are some things that I found quite surprising from Japan, that may be different from what everyone has told me or from my imagination. However, these surprises intrigued, interested and fascinated me.
Japan is the Perfect Place to Work as a Foreigner
For those who are seeking a job in another country, I would always say to them that Japan is something that they should consider.
