Key segments were drawn from ASIA to JAPAN’s business trip report: 【出張レポート | エジプト】通貨は沈み学生はあふれるエジプトで感じた海外志向の熱
Last July 2025, ASIA to JAPAN — the company behind the FAST OFFER International Program — visited Egypt. We held an information session attended by many outstanding students, primarily from science and engineering fields. After the session, ASIA to JAPAN conducted interviews. From this, we learned that many students are keen to build their careers in Japan. Curious why? Here are some of the reasons why Egyptian engineering students want to work in Japan.
1. Love for Anime
Many Egyptian students have become interested in Japan due to its pop culture, including anime, manga, and games. Even though many haven’t been to Japan, they have been exposed to Japanese culture.
A lot of the students we talked to are familiar with Japan’s culture through anime that they grew up with. And over time, many have developed a desire to visit the country someday.
“There was no going back after falling into the anime rabbit hole. It was the best. A game-changer! It fed my dream even more to one day work in Japan. I faithfully started taking Japanese classes and even joined this Facebook community for Egyptians interested in Japan.” – From “An Egyptian Engineer’s Journey: From STEM Education to IT Career Success in Japan”

2. Japan’s Strong Presence in Cutting-Edge Technology Fields
Japan’s leadership in cutting-edge technologies is also one of the reasons why Egyptian engineering students want to work in Japan. It’s not just limited to production technology, but also in futuristic areas such as robotics and artificial intelligence.
With a solid education in engineering, Egyptian students are well prepared for fields such as mechanical engineering and information technology. Coincidentally, these are also the areas in which Japan offers extensive opportunities for research, innovation, and professional growth.
3. Japan Welcomes Foreign Workers
Among developed countries, Japan is one of the few that has a relatively positive attitude toward accepting foreign workers. This is because Japan is facing a serious labor shortage due to a declining birthrate and aging population. This has lead to a growing demand for highly skilled foreign workers and those with specialized skills.
4. Growing Support System for Foreigners Living in Japan
In recent years, the environment for accepting foreign students has been improving in terms of systems. This is seen in expanding the scope of residence status and establishing employment support systems for international students. There is a growing recognition that human resources from overseas are essential to maintaining and developing Japan’s industrial structure.
On the other hand, issues such as language and cultural barriers and a lack of support for daily life remain, and efforts to resolve these will be key going forward.
5. FAST OFFER International’s Free Japanese Classes

Although only a few students could speak Japanese, many students became motivated to learn Japanese after hearing the experiences of seniors who had previously used the free Japanese Classes offered by the FAST OFFER international program.
Students were skeptical about the free classes at first. In Egypt, the concept of “free” education is almost nonexistent, and some students were skeptical at first. But as they learned about success stories of actual participants, the number of people wanting to take the course increased. Availability of free resources, such as language classes are one of the reasons why Egyptian engineering students want to work in Japan.
“As I mastered the Japanese language, I began to deeply understand Japanese humor and values, and I discovered that my way of thinking was similar to the values of the Japanese people. My studies led me to start dreaming of living and working in Japan.” – From “Understanding Japanese Humor Key to My Journey to Japan“
6. Egyptian English Language Ability is a Plus in Japan
The widespread availability of English language education in Egypt means that technical documents and papers can be easily accessed. This creates the foundation for acquiring the specialized knowledge and practical skills required by Japanese companies. In fact, there are many students who achieve outstanding results in fields such as CAD design, programming, and network construction while still at university.
7. It’s More Sustainable to Work Than Study in Japan
From our interviews, we learned that Egyptians have an interest in studying in Japan. However, because of the currency exchanges and the local economy, it’s become too expensive for Egyptian students to study in Japan. As an alternative, many are looking to work in Japan, rather than study.
“Considering Egypt’s current political and economic conditions, my desire to work and live in Japan has only strengthened.” – From “Returning to Japan After 12 Years: My Journey with ASIA to JAPAN and Finding My Dream Job”
