I have always wanted to learn a foreign language since I thought it would be a great additional skill that I could use along with engineering. I loved watching Japanese dramas so I knew that someday I would learn Japanese. During the second year of my college, I attended a Japanese orientation program where I learned about the job opportunities for engineers in Japan. In that orientation, a few seniors of my college who had got placed in Japan shared their success stories. I still remember a senior saying “Learning Japanese has changed my life”. I was really moved by it. Thus with full enthusiasm and with a dream of working in Japan my journey of Japanese began. A Japanese Language Program sponsored by ASIA to JAPAN made the Japanese learning process super fun. We weren’t only taught the language but also the Japanese culture and their etiquettes. After consistently studying for over 2 years I finally became eligible for the job interview process in FAST OFFER International Program (formerly Study Go Work JAPAN Program). The first step was to clear a mock interview conducted by our sensei at my Japanese class. After clearing that interview, I had to appear for another Skype interview conducted by ASIA to JAPAN. Both these interviews mainly focused on the reasons for wanting to work in Japan, passion for Japan and Japanese culture, final year engineering project, etc. After clearing the Skype interview, I had to create a PR video of 1 minute where I had to speak about myself in a very concise manner. My sensei helped me write the content of the PR video and with a gentle smile and full confidence I recorded the video. After submitting the PR video, I received my very first invitation from a company. To be honest, at first, I was freaking out because I didn’t know what to expect in the interview but all thanks to Kawai-san, my mentor who helped me understand the company better and helped me bridge the gap between me and the company. Kawai-san gave her honest feedback on all my answers which helped me improve a lot and thanks to that I was able to crack my very first interview in a Japanese company. But unfortunately, I didn’t clear the 2nd round and was really sad but my mentor motivated me to keep working hard and not give up. Later I got selected by two Japanese companies but unfortunately didn’t clear the aptitude round of one company and coding round of another. In February 2022 I received an invitation from an IT company that provides solutions in healthcare, business, etc. I was beyond thrilled because I could see the scope of working in those IT fields that excite me a lot. Thanks to my mentors Akata-san and Kawai-san, who reviewed my answers and helped me understand my weak points, I was able to crack the first interview. I was super nervous for the last interview since the panel of interviewers included the president of the company. But all the interviewers including the president made me feel so comfortable that I was able to talk freely about my interests and my dreams. I felt ecstatic when I received a call from my mentor Kawai-san telling me that I cleared the last interview and got placed in the company. My heartfelt gratitude to all the mentors for guiding me so well in achieving my dream job. Thanks to comments like “We know you can do this!” , “We believe in you!”, “We all are cheering for you!” which I received from my mentors, I never once doubted myself. Working in Japan is surely going to be a turning point in my life and I can’t wait to start my new life in Japan. Thank you ASIA to JAPAN for making my dream come true !!!
